Compliance considerations
Aluminium shopfront and entrance doors used by the public must remain in safe operation under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992. Where the door also forms part of an emergency escape route, panic hardware compliance to BS EN 1125 / BS EN 179 applies. Glazing replacement on commercial doors should specify toughened or laminated to BS 6206 / BS EN 12600 as appropriate.
Maintenance recommendations
Annual inspection of pivots, top centres, transom closer, hinges and frame seals is the recommended baseline for high-traffic commercial aluminium doors. High-footfall retail and hospitality entrances benefit from six-monthly intervals. Pivots and top centres are wear items — early replacement at first signs of play extends the life of the surrounding closer and frame.
