Automatic sliding door repair

Your sliding entrance is the busiest machine in the building — opening and closing a thousand times a day until, one morning, it doesn’t. We repair and service bi-part, single-slide and telescopic sliding doors across the UK, on every major operator brand.

Symptom → cause

What your sliding door is trying to tell you

Sliding operators fail in recognisable ways, and the symptom usually points straight at the component:

  • Grinding or scraping as it travels — worn carriage rollers or debris in the floor guide. Left alone, the leaves drop and start chewing the track, turning a cheap roller swap into a track replacement.
  • Door hesitates, reverses, or slams — drive belt wear or controller faults; belts stretch and their teeth strip with age.
  • Opens for trolleys but not people (or vice versa) — activation sensor drift or misalignment; recalibration to BS EN 16005 detection requirements.
  • Stuck closed with a dead display — power, fuse or controller failure; often repairable at board level or by module swap.
  • Stuck open — frequently a safety sensor seeing a “ghost” obstruction: low winter sun, rain on the lens, a new floor mat. A calibration issue, not a broken door — but the heat loss is real.

Every repair visit ends with a force test and sensor check against BS EN 16005, because a sliding door that closes on a customer is a far bigger cost than the repair. For swing operators and drive arms, see our drive arm repair service; for the wider service, automatic doors.

Keep it sliding — what a service covers
  • Drive belt tension and tooth condition, roller and track wear measurement
  • Activation and safety sensor calibration to BS EN 16005 detection zones
  • Closing force and speed testing with documented results
  • Controller diagnostics, error-log review and battery/manual-release checks
  • A written record for your compliance file — annually as a minimum, six-monthly for high footfall
Frequently asked

Sliding door questions

01 Our sliding door is stuck open — can it wait until tomorrow?

A door failed open is a security and heat-loss problem, so we treat it as a priority call. Most sliding operators have a manual locking arrangement we can talk you through securing overnight if an engineer cannot reach you the same day.

02 Which automatic sliding door brands do you repair?

All major makes — Record, Tormax, Dorma/dormakaba, Geze, Stanley, ASSA Abloy and Besam among them. Most consumable parts (belts, rollers, sensors) are available from UK stock.

03 How often should an automatic sliding door be serviced?

At least annually to keep it within BS EN 16005 safety expectations, six-monthly for high-footfall retail or healthcare entrances. A service covers sensor calibration, force testing, belt and roller condition, and a documented safety check.

04 The door opens for some people but not others — why?

Classic sensor fault. Activation sensors lose sensitivity, get knocked out of alignment, or their detection zone drifts so shorter or slower-moving people no longer trigger it. Recalibration or replacement is usually a single-visit fix.

Same-day quote from a photo — UK-wide commercial door engineers.

Send a photo and a short description of the fault and we’ll come back with a fixed-price quote the same day. Most diagnoses don’t need a site visit.

Ongoing care

Stop waiting for the next breakdown. Put it on a contract.

A 6-monthly or annual auto doors service contract catches the failing closer, the worn pivot and the dragging latch before they stop the door. Up to 60% fewer emergency callouts, doubled component life, and the insurer-friendly documentation as a by-product.
