Aluminium shopfront and entrance door service contracts — pivots, closers, transoms, frames and ironmongery serviced annually or six-monthly to catch wear before it becomes the door failure that closes your business for the day.
Aluminium doors are the workhorse of UK commercial entrances: high-street retail, hospitality, offices, showrooms. They're also the door type where failure cascades fastest. A worn bottom pivot misaligns the latch; the latch stresses the closer; the slamming closer damages the glazing; the glazing failure becomes a same-day emergency. Catching the worn pivot at the planned visit costs £200. Letting it cascade for 18 months costs £1,500 plus emergency callout fees plus lost trading.
Aluminium entrance doors used by the public must remain in safe operation under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992. Where the door also forms part of an emergency escape route, panic hardware compliance to BS EN 1125 / BS EN 179 applies. Glazing in commercial doors must meet BS 6206 / BS EN 12600 impact requirements. Closers to BS EN 1154 where the door is also a fire door.
Wherever your premises are, the same engineer team carries your documentation between visits. One contract, one accountable team, one document trail — whether you have a single site or a multi-region estate.
High-footfall retail entrance: six-monthly is the sensible baseline. Moderate-traffic office or showroom entrance: annual. The decision is driven more by traffic count and weather exposure than calendar.
Closer valve mis-adjustment — usually a five-minute fix that prevents a slamming door from destroying the pivot, latch and glazing over the following months. A correctly-tuned closer can extend the rest of the door's working life by years.
Yes — the framing (Smart, Comar, Senior, AluK etc.) is largely irrelevant for service; the hardware (Dorma, Geze, Briton, Adams Rite) is what we work on, and we hold parts and supplier relationships across all major UK brands.
Not too late, but the next visit will need to budget for likely component replacement — usually the closer and possibly the pivot. The contract picks up condition from that baseline forward; remedial work is quoted separately and often completed in the same visit.
APG glass doors are technically different (frameless glass with patch fittings rather than aluminium framing) but our service contract covers both. The maintenance actions are slightly different — focus on the patch fittings, lock cassette and floor spring rather than the framing — but the schedule and documentation pattern is the same.
First visit typically scheduled within 2–3 weeks of contract sign-off. Larger multi-site contracts are phased over 4–8 weeks. Emergency response priority kicks in from contract start date, not first visit.
A short email or a photo of your door inventory is all we need. No site visit required in most cases.
