What we install and repair from the Briton range
Overhead closers: Briton 2003, 2300, 2700 and 121CE are the units we handle most. These are routinely specified on fire-rated doors and on doors that need a heavier-build closer than the lighter European equivalents. See commercial door closer repair and overhead door closer repair for the silos.
Panic hardware: the 376 panic latch (single-point), 377 (touchbar), and 378 (vertical bolt) cover almost every panic-exit specification we encounter. Direct replacements are stocked. See panic hardware repair, push bar, vertical.
Locks and hardware: Briton mortice locks (5500/5600 series) and handles appear on commercial doors across the UK; we cover replacements through door hardware repair.
Why Briton is specified
Two strengths. First, certification fit — the 2003 closer and 376 panic latch are both UK-tested to the relevant BS EN standards (1154 for closers; 1125 and 179 for panic hardware) and are commonly specified by name on UK fire-door and emergency-exit drawings. Second, parts and service longevity — Briton spares for closers and panic hardware go back decades, which makes the brand a safe specification for heritage buildings, schools and other long-life institutional fitouts.
Common Briton faults
Closer hydraulic failure on the 2003 and 2700 ranges — standard end-of-life on a heavily used closer. Replacement is the fix. See failed transoms for the broader pattern.
Panic latch jamming on the 376 — usually a worn latch tongue or a misaligned strike. Replacement of the latch case and re-bedding of the strike resolves it. See BS EN 1125 + 179 explained for the compliance picture.
Spring fatigue on the 378 vertical bolt — the top and bottom shootbolts lose pressure over 8–12 years of daily use. Spring replacement is the standard fix.
Sourcing and stock
Briton spares are well-stocked through Allegion UK distribution and several wholesalers; we hold the common Briton items (2003 spring packs, 376 latch cases, 378 shootbolt components) on the vans for same-day repair. Less-common heritage parts (1130-series closers, older 374 panic latches) come direct from Allegion with same-day shipping in most cases.
Compliance considerations on Briton fire-door hardware
Fire-door closers and panic hardware are subject to documented certification — replacement parts must be CE/UKCA-marked and tested to the relevant BS EN standard. Briton replacement parts retain certification under Allegion UK; we supply a written certificate at the point of fitting so the customer has the compliance evidence for their fire-door log. See fire door compliance for the broader compliance picture.
