Commitment, logistics, and engineering expertise under pressure
Commercial Door Maintenance and Security Ltd was called to a Mini showroom in Newport, Wales, with just four days remaining before the building was due to be handed over. The automatic sliding entrance doors were non-operational after the key had snapped off inside the door switch, rendering it unusable and impossible to extract. With the showroom opening imminent, the failure of the entrance doors posed a serious risk to the handover schedule and overall project completion. An immediate solution was required to ensure the doors were fully functional and compliant before the deadline.
Upon investigation, it became clear that the situation was far from straightforward. The original switch box manufacturer no longer existed, meaning a direct replacement was unavailable. Our team carried out extensive research to identify a suitable alternative and eventually located a specialist company capable of reproducing the switch. They agreed to supply the part; however, due to the tight programme, any delay would have jeopardised the entire project. When it became apparent that the switch had not even been dispatched as promised, we took decisive action to prevent further loss of time.
Rather than wait and risk missing the handover date, arrangements were made for our team to personally collect the part. This involved a seven-hour round trip to pick up the reproduced switch and transport it back by hand, ensuring there were no courier delays or logistical failures. Once secured, the component was immediately passed to our engineer, allowing the job to continue without interruption despite the mounting pressure and limited timeframe.
