International Sourcing of Obsolete APG Components
Commercial Door Maintenance and Security Ltd were instructed to attend a KIKO Milano store within a busy Bristol shopping centre after their extremely large APG glass entrance doors began to fail. Upon inspection, our engineers identified that the overhead roller system was faulty and beyond repair. Complicating the situation further, the specific roller assembly was obsolete and no longer available through standard UK or European supply channels. Given the size and weight of the glass panels, the failure had caused the door to drop slightly, placing additional strain on the track and creating both operational and safety concerns within a high-footfall retail environment.
Recognising the importance of preserving the existing door system rather than replacing the entire installation, we initiated a global search for the correct roller kit. After extensive supplier liaison, we located a manufacturer in the United States who had just five remaining units left in their worldwide inventory. These were traced to their German branch, allowing us to secure one kit with a three-week turnaround. Acting decisively ensured the client retained their original APG door system without the significant cost and disruption associated with full replacement, demonstrating our persistence and international sourcing capability when dealing with discontinued specialist components.
